vRealize Operations 8.18 – How to add related ESXi Host metrics and properties to Virtual Machines list view

New with vRealize Operations Manager 8.18 is to be able to add related metrics and properties to an object of your choosing.  This is one of the best product features that I have seen released in a very long time.  In this guide I will show you how to add the Host CPU Contention%, and ESXi Version to a Virtual Machine list view.

Go to Views and Create a new List view.

Give it a name and choose Virtual Machine as your Subject

In this example I will add CPU > Contention % as my metric.  I will name it VM CPU Contention % under Metric label so it is clear that we are dealing with the VM.

Now I want to compare it to the ESXi Host CPU contention % that the VM is on.  This will allow us to know if the ESXi Host is also having contention as well.  To do that we will click on the dropdown and select Host System.

Notice how it has changed to Host System metrics.  Now we can add CPU > Contention % metric.  We will change the Metric Label to Host CPU Contention % so that we can differentiate the two.

Looking at our Preview, we can see our first VM has contention but the Host has no contention whatsoever.

You can add ESXi Host Version as well to show that you can also add properties.

Looking at our Preview we can see that the property shows up.  You can now add vCenter, Datastores, and more related metrics and properties as needed doing the same steps.
